PSYCHEDELIA​ ​is an hour-long documentary film about psychedelic drugs and their ability to induce mystical and religious experiences. The film chronicles their use in controlled research studies prior to the cultural upheaval of the 1960s, when LSD was regarded as a promising medical breakthrough, as well as their recent re-emergence in psychiatry.

Featuring leading experts in the field of psychedelic research, the film tells the story of medical professionals who have re-introduced these compounds into a legal and growing field of study. First-person accounts from a study on end-of-life anxiety explore the profound, life-altering insights psychedelics induce in participants and what these insights might mean for society at large.

A loving mother of four is granted the right to legally use psilocybin mushrooms to treat her end-of-life anxiety. She then embarks on a remarkable journey of personal transformation and healing while exploring lesser-known possible treatments for cancer, such as cannabis oil.

The breathtaking audio-visual adventure is enhanced by immersive animations inspired by the psychoactive effects of this extraordinary substance. Fascinating stories of a group of Czech psychonauts are combined with personal insights of Stanislav Grof, a judicious nestor of transpersonal psychology, and Octavio Rettig, a controversial neoshaman who has facilitated ceremonial contact with Bufo Alvarius for thousands of volunteers from around the world.

For many, the experience has been life-changing. Originally intended to simply document these experiences, the film evolved into an intense meditation on the nature of consciousness and being.

The great Amazon hides many secrets. And Amazonian shamans surprise us with their abilities and knowledge. They can heal even so-called incurable diseases because they communicate directly with the plants, which themselves tell them how they act medicinally. Local shamans can leave their bodies, travel across the Earth and the universe, they can access any information and learn anything that interests them.

The key to this is ayahuasca, a mysterious vine whose brew not only heals and purifies a person on all levels but also provides knowledge of anything in this world and in previously unknown worlds, opening doors to other dimensions... In the film, we encounter ayahuasca not only through shamans and their work but also through various experts and people for whom it represents an incomparable experience.

The film also highlights the serious threat to the Amazon and its inhabitants.

Stanislav Grof and the Journey of Consciousness

The Way of the Psychonaut explores the life and work of Stanislav Grof, Czech born psychiatrist and psychedelic psychotherapy pioneer. Stan’s quest for knowledge and insights into the healing power of non-ordinary states of consciousness, influenced the discipline of psychology and profoundly changed many individual lives. One of those transformed by Stan is filmmaker Susan Hess Logeais. The documentary utilizes Susan’s personal existential crisis as a gateway to Grof’s impact, from the micro to the macro.
